Photos of the Event

Dear SHS 59ers,

Our Pocono Reunion was a tremendous success.  Even the weather cooperated.  We thank all of you who attended and made it such fun, and we really missed those of you who couldn't come.  There is some more information we'd like to give you and some reminders.

1.  Please fill out your biographical information on our website if you haven't already.  Bill Beik says that he WILL create a downloadable book containing the main features from the website and all the classmate pages that have been submitted.  This includes the bio, either following the form on-line or using your own format; and/or relatively recent pictures of yourself and/or your family.   BUT we need input from EVERYONE!  THE DEADLINE FOR INCLUSION IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 - SO GET THEM IN!!  Site address is:  www.swarthmore1959.com

2.  Bill created an amazing DVD of our 4 years at the high school interspersed with national and global events that took place during that time.  The background music is all from our era.  Bill's presentation was the highlight of our Saturday evening banquet - just incredible.  All classmates who were there received a copy of the DVD.  Bill still has a more copies, which he'd be happy to send out to any not at the reunion.  It would be on a "first come, first served" basis, so please let him know via e-mail (wbeik@comcast.net) if you want one.  There might be a small fee for packaging and mailing.

3.  Photos from the reunion:  please send your best ones to Bill and he'll put them on the website for all to enjoy.

4.  Professional photos from Saturday night - Joe sent you that information, but in case you need it again it's:  www.moments4ever.com    Event number is 14119 and the password is 10309.
We'll send a list of who's who in the group photo just in case you don't recognize some of us after 50 years:-)

5.  Plans for a mini-reunion out West in a couple of years were floated (Sid, Elsa, Marion, Steve Crane, Deedee, Susan Preston - you're up!), and then we're thinking about something very simple for a 55th.  At this stage of our lives, we just can't wait another 10 years to see each other again.  And we have so much fun together!!

At the dinner Saturday night, Helen read a poem written by Ada Kroon after the 40th reunion.  It expresses so well our thoughts and feelings from the 50th as well.  Several people wanted copies, so it's typed out below.  Thank you, Ada!  We missed you.

"Swarthmore Class of 1959"

A weekend of mania
In the Pocono Mountains
Of Pennsylvania.
Memory moments
Recounted,
As our lives
We temporarily dismounted.
Faces blurred
Until it occurred,
And Who
Became known.
Delight,
As conversation
Took flight.
Histories shared,
Everyone cared.
As we hovered
We discovered;
We've been to the same places.
Experienced the same things.
Know about success,
And have had to face our fears.

Food and fun.
Walking and talking,
And for some,
A bit of golfing.
Laughing,
And.......
Flowing sweetly inbetween
Was empathy.
Embracing us all
In this season of Fall.

An "Amazing Grace"
Is all I can say.
I look forward
To the next reunion day.
